Am I going to regret switching?

I've been through the ringer with comcast, had 3 techs out and all say everything seems fine despite my documented repeated brief outages on and off throughout the day. The last guy told me he could only guess I had interference coming from somewhere, maybe another house on my tap, but no idea what and he didn't know what to tell me. My only other ISP choice is centurylink. People in my town (Eugene, OR) generally have negative things to say about it and say it's worse than comcast. According to them I can get 80 mb service at my house, which would be plenty if they can deliver on that. I'm happy with 40+. I really just need reliability as I work from home and whatever is causing my comcast issues makes it almost impossible to conduct meetings and work. I know a lot of DSL depends on how close you are to the box and your wiring, I signed up to try and figure I'll cancel whichever ISP is worse. My house was built in 1980 and likely has original phone wiring but as I understand it they have run fiber to my neighborhood hence getting me higher speeds. But what are the odds I can really get near 80 MB? And how is reliability compared to cable?
