I live in a rural/ semirural area in Kansas (near Perry) and have had Centurylink dsl. Yesterday, a contractor was digging with a backhoe in on the edge of the road right of way and installed something. I went out and asked, and he said we are getting high speed internet. I asked what type, and as I understood him, it would be by "wifi;" that there would be a transmitter apparently on a post in front of each house, and Centurylink would be installing fiber between each transmitter with horizontal boring. He said they would not be connecting fiber directly to houses.
I'll be delighted to get true high speed Internet, if that's what's coming. Does anyone know what is being installed? How fast will it be? Will it work? I may have misunderstood or only partially understood what the technician said.
