Probably the most basic wiring question ever...thanks for your patience. Just switched from Cable to CenturyLink DSL. 60 year old house but the wiring was redone 6 years ago.
Paying for DSL 12Mbps down. Plugged the modem into the entry-point box outside using an extension cord and got 11.5 Mbps down. Problem is, I'm only getting 4-6 Mbps inside my home.
Attached is a diagram of the situation. I have 4 wires (blue/blue&white, green/green&white) at the outside box but inside my house only the greens are connected to the security system and then everything else is connected to 2 wires coming out of the alarm. I have a Leviton 1x7 security board that has 5 pairs of wires (only the greens_ punched down. The blues from the street are not connected to anything.
Couple of questions based on my ignorance:
1.Could the fact that only greens are inside my house be causing the slow down?
2. Any thoughts on how I should remedy the situation? I can come up with 2 possibilities:
a. Wondering if I can just punch down the 2 blues into the splitter and then to each of the wires heading to my wall jacks.
b. Seems like I could take the wire from the street,
punch 4 down on the Leviton board,
use the Leviton RJ31x plug to send to the alarm and then,
punch green & blues down to all of my phone jacks.
