Power went out for about 30 seconds yesterday. When it came back on, my DSL router couldn't get a connection to the DSLAM. Did all the usual, power cycle, reset, and still nothing.
We have a secondary DSL account (another family member) at the same physical residence but that one is working fine.
Tried plugging the other DSL router to my line and it also wouldn't connect.
Phone company says the port I'm on is down - what would cause this from a power outage? And why do they have to come to my residence when they already know it's the port that my connection is on that's down? Why not just go fix the downed port?
Power company said the reason for these small 30 second outages here and there is fail safe circuits being triggered (squirrels/tree limb shorts out line, etc.)
For a while now I've noticed my DSL hasn't been as snappy as it was back in the day of Sprint/early Embarq (web pages take a while to load/stall, poor online gaming performance).
Been using my Galaxy S7 as my internet modem (I know technically it's not a modem but you know what I mean - internet gateway) with AT&T as a service provider tethering the connection to my PC via USB and holy crap I can't believe how much more snappier the net is using the wireless data of my cell phone provider over a wired cell phone provider! You would think it would be the opposite away around!
This might cause me to consider dropping Centurylink for ATT&T wireless because the net runs so much more snappier and quicker on their wireless service! (I think even faster upload speeds as well).
I'm going to give Centurylink a chance, maybe the port/equipment I'm on has been failing for a while now and the last power outage was the final nail in the coffin of it since it doesn't appear even another connection from same physical address was effected and I'll be back to snappy web usage once fixed. But I am going to call AT&T up and get some pricing and additional info just in case.
