Putting C2000T in bridge mode for use with ASUS DD-WRT router

I have Bonded Pair DSL service from CenturyLink, which is sadly my only option. I am going NUTS trying to setup my C200T modem/router in bridge mode. I have read everything that I can find on this subject, both here and elsewhere on the web, and I have reached out to Century Link for help. I have done my best to follow instructions. I am fairly competent technically but this situation has me pulling my hair out. I am trying to put the C2000T in bridge mode so I can use it with an ASUS RT-AC56U 802.11AC Gigabit Router that has been flashed with DD-WRT. I have also setup NORD VPN using OPENVPN on the ASUS. It "works" with ASUS connected to the C2000T, but connected that way isn't the VPN fairly useless? Here's what I've done. 1) Put the C2000T into bridge mode, choosing Transparent Bridging 8/35 as directed by CenturyLink. Applied/Saved Settings and rebooted C2000T. 2) Set the ASUS DD-WRT for PPPoE, making sure that I used the PPPoE username and password provided by Century Link. Applied/Saved Settings and rebooted Asus. 3) Connected the ASUS via ethernet cable from C2000T port 1 to WAN port on Asus. I can't connect to the internet after doing all of this. The only thing that I can do at this point is hard reset the C2000T and go to connect.centurylink.com to go through their connection process. I am in a "walled garden" environment until I complete that process. Note: I did try just for grins to go to go to connect.centurylink.com on the Asus with the C2000T in bridge mode with no luck. Can someone who has actually done this before PLEASE offer insight? Is it even possible to do what I want to do or does CenturyLink have me so locked down that it is impossible?
