C2100T in bridge mode

I was thinking to replace my Technicolor C2100T modem/router with a different modem/router box, but all the people I have discussed this with (all of them far more knowledgeable on these issues than me) advise me to keep the C2100T and set it into bridge mode, and get a nice router. I have seen a number of threads in this forum about setting the C2100T into bridge mode, so I should be (hopefully) all right there. I am in doubt as to how to connect the C2100T to the router though. The C2100T currently has internal IP address 192.168.0.1. Will it keep that address in bridge mode? If so, I guess the router will have to have some external IP address in the 192.168.0 network, and an internal IP in a different network. And the CenturyLink credentials configuration would still have to be done in the C2100T. Some have told me that that is not the way it works. When a modem/router box is set in bridge mode, for all practical purposes it just passes the data transparently to the router, conceptually as if the latter were directly connected to the DSL. In this setup, no configuration is done in the modem/router (the C2100T, in my case). Instead, everything is done in the actual router connected to the modem/router, including the CenturyLink-supplied credentials that have to be used to access their Internet services, and the static IP address(es) supplied by CenturyLink. Which if these two views is right for the C2100t? Actually, is either of them right?
