I'm a long time voice/dsl user and signed up for a a gigabit/prism/phone package when it became available. Today when the tech came to install he told me I could not have my static ip with prism. To figure out how to proceed I need to know why it's not possible. Case 1) the vlan that prism requires simply won't work on a static ip, 2) it's not possible with the standard modem/router but could work with a more sophisticated unit, or case 3) the hardware is fine, but programming at the central station would be more involved than the techs are permitted. Any insight would be appreciated, I should add that my dsl is currently in bridge mode to a Mikrotik router which could tag my traffic as vlan 201.
