One topic that's come up in the past is the fact that CenturyLink's "Pure Broadband" still includes a phone that receives incoming calls and has the ability to call 911. Those of us with this setup still end up paying 911 taxes, etc. every month for a phone line we don't use.
I was wondering today what would happen if I go to a company like Pioneer Telephone and switch the local toll and long distance providers from CenturyLink to them? Would that make this useful phone line useful again? And, if so, would CenturyLink notice the change and then start charging me new fees because they would now consider it a "real" phone line?
It's confusing for me as to why I even need this line since I have GPON fiber but since it's forced down my throat and I have to pay taxes and fees on it then it would be great if I could at least make it somewhat useful...
