I'm in an old Qwest area, had been on a 7meg connection for 9 years and shockingly found out I could upgrade to 12meg which I did. At first my new C1100Z modem was training at 15m though was getting 4 or 5 retrains per day, this went on for about 2 weeks. Now I appear to be locked in at 10m with no further retrains in the last two days.
I'm still happy to basically have doubled my speed but am disappointed that after each retrain I was still at 15m but suddenly am now at 10m. Logically thought it would incrementally step down until it found the "sweet spot", but maybe it uses other data from neighborhood and knows 10m is it I'd rather get the 15m train and have to deal with a few retrains a day rather than be stuck at 10.
Unfortunately I didn't think to capture the connect stats at the higher train speed but here's what I have now which I think is pretty good:
DSL Power
Levels Downstream Upstream
SNR 19.9 dB 6.5 dB
Attenuation 12.6 dB 10.1 dB
Power 15.4 dBm 10.3 dBm
It shows 4000' on the loop length which sounds about right from where I know the DSLAM is at.
Anyway, just curious if this is the norm and/or might it retrain upward at some point. Or if there's a way to force a retrain and hope for the best.
