Had Qwest for 10 years. DSL worked fine. Last August Centurylink managed to screw the pooch so totally we wound up having THREE DIFFERENT ACCOUNTS before they managed to get things sort-of working again. Since that time, our 12 mbps line has worked very poorly. Once it's CONNECTED I can shove things down the pipe at the normal 10-12 mbps. But GETTING connected is slow.
Fire up your favorite browser on ANY of the connected computer - hard wire, wi-fi, doesn't matter. Put in URL. Wait while it spins... Eventually, may be 3 seconds may be TEN seconds, may NEVER finish spinning, you'll get a web page. Repeat ad nauseum. Doesn't matter whether I'm working on a website on my ISP, or trying to get a question answered in a forum, connecting, getting pages, doing actual WORK, is slow. If I could spend all day downloading software, it would run 10-12 mbps and things would be fine, but I DON'T.......
Called Centurylink. Wasted an hour with the network phone answerer - this was the genius that told me for the modem to work, it had to be power cycled AT LEAST once a day.
Called again. Wasted 75 minutes with a different phone answerer - this one told me there was no problem since it "eventually would usually connect"
Called again. Wasted 90+ minutes on a variety of warm bodies - from no problem, to we'll send an update, to hmmm, to finally getting some supervisor that sent a replacement modem... This was 4 - 6 weeks ago. Put on new modem, set it up, made no difference.
Called again today. Got a supervisor, who stated "THERE IS NO PROBLEM BECAUSE YOU CAN TRANSFER DATA." Me:"There IS a problem 'cause it takes WAY TOO LONG to get the web sites to respond. Multiple seconds to get a site home page is SLOW..." Him: "No. It's working fine. Is there anything else I can do for your?" Me: "Yes, get me to a competent technician that can diagnose this problem and get it resolved." Him:"I'm the most senior person here. You have a nice day." CLICK.
When I don't have to talk to them, I eventually forget why Centurylink surpassed both Adobe and DirecTV and the most horse feces organization I've ever had to deal with.
SO, since they don't have a clue, and apparently don't much care, anybody in HERE have any ideas how to improve the way this thing connects to websites WITHOUT going to a completely different service provider?
