How to switch to 1 or 2 year contract as an existing customer

I'm a Centurylink customer (former Qwest area). Currently I get 20/5 (actually 22/1.5), but can upgrade to 40/5. There are some reasonable deals with 1 and 2 year contracts ($30-35/mo), which I wouldn't have a problem with agreeing to. But there doesn't seem to be any way for an existing customer to get those deals online (even when upgrading). It just shows me the month-to-month $69 (+$2 fee) rate. Using the chat online, it seems I have to call the retention department to (maybe) be able to get a contract. Seems odd I have to threaten to leave just to commit to paying them for longer! Other than that, is there any trick to seeing the deals online? If I have to be a "new" customer before they'll allow me to sign up for longer, how long do I need to be disconnected for? (this is a seasonal home, so I could disconnect for a while, if there's really no way to get a contract as an existing customer, but would prefer not to).
