I have had a naked DSL line with CL for almost 3 years now - only thing available in my area. For that entire time I was paying them with a check - I just liked to see my bill in person and respond to it manually. I'm a bit old school that way.
I finally got tired of it and set up autopay on my last billing cycle. Around the same time my debit card had to be closed out due to a fraud alert, and so I went to CL's site to adjust my autopay settings.
That was when I noticed that the upcoming bill was nearly twice the amount it was before. I looked up the bill details, and wouldn't you know it? In addition to the usual rip-off amount of $50ish for the naked DSL line, there is a new $25 VOICE charge.
I have NEVER had voice service on this line, and never have asked for it.
How curious that that this unsolicited change to the account occurred just after setting up autopay?
Is this a common tactic by CenturyLink?
I'm on my way to China this week but I guess I'll have to call CL on my way out and ask them what the )@#$ they think they're doing with my account.
