In another topic on this forum I reached out for help in getting the correct modem to having CL upgrade my current 1.5Mbps "Silver Connect" DSL service to 7Mbps.
Yes, just a little jump up in speed, nothing more. 1.5Mb up/896 down is not very fast, and frequently ends up being less--today, for example, it's 1.01/0.731 megabit/second using this site's test.
I bought the new required modem and spent hours and hours of my time (and others') on this forum, and with CL customer service and tech service, figuring how to set things up. After the "upgrade," I spent a lot of time trying to figure out why speeds hadn't changed.
Finally a CL tech on the phone let me know that the "facilities are not in place" for the upgrade. The explanation was that the "fiber to your premises" that is necessary for the upgrade is not actually in place, and therefore the upgrade couldn't happen. They refunded the new and additional charges.
I have lots of questions for the knowledgeable people on these forums.
The CL sales site determines that my address is capable of 40Mbps. Why?
"Fiber to your premises" doesn't really mean anything, right? The 7Mbs would still have been running on the copper phone wire, right?
Should I try again in some other way? (That jump in speed was appealing, and it would not have been a large increase to my monthly bill.)
Can I or should I complain to some regulating authority? Which one?
Thanks,
