We just moved into an apartment building in Portland, and we're fortunate that gigabit service is offered here. There was a C2000T modem already installed, with printed instructions for how to set up an account at http://instant.centurylink.net.
However, I'm having a little trouble with the C2000T: when I try to access certain settings pages, such as DHCP Reservation, it refuses to load and the entire web interface stops responding for several minutes. (During this time I can't bring up any page of the interface from any device, but internet access still works normally). I'd like to do a factory reset to see if it clears things up, but since this was a self-install I don't have any of the login information such as the PPP password, and I don't know if there are any custom settings needed for this building. I'm a little nervous that phone support won't be familiar with the setup here and/or won't give me the information I need to set it up over the phone, and that I'll end up without internet access for several days while I wait for a technician to come out and fix it in person. Does anyone have any advice for this scenario?
Another question: I was on the phone with support during the initial setup fixing a separate issue, and the support person offered to remotely change the SSID on my modem. This seems like a security risk -- what service do they use to do this, and is there a way to disable it on the modem?
Thanks!
