After 9 days and 4 hrs on tech support, still baffled. Just purchased 3rd modem, no success. Here are the symptoms:
-Working fine with CenturyLink DSL and NetGear modem for years, and suddenly, things stopped working. (Latest modem is even CenturyLink branded, i.e. Zyxel PK5001Z.)
-Android device gets email just fine on TouchDown app (IMAP), but gets no web.
-All computers (Mac, Win) get no web on Safari, Firefox. (Note: I am a Mac guy, don't test Win much.)
-Mac email client, Mail.app, gets no email. (I don't use Win for email.)
-Mac will very slowly, partially load a web page (bare bones, no images etc.)
-Ping shows can connect just fine
-2 hrs on tech support with CenturyLink DSL -> "Everything is fine, the line is stable"
-2 hrs on tech support with modem company (NetGear) -> "Something is wrong with your system, try another computer, or exchange the modem". Yeah right. Have tried 4 computers. Have bought 2 new modems in 1 week.
-DNS issues were suggested but can resolve domain names in Ping, so not an issue.
It seems to me that something happened with CenturyLink or the line to "break" our connection. I guess at some higher level in the TCP/IP stack? Maybe they reconfigured their software somehow?
Please help, this is beyond ridiculous & frustrating.
