I have Century Link DSL in a vacation condo so I am not on site much of the time. My modem is an Actiontec PK5001A that I purchased from them. I depend on the internet for my remote thermostat monitoring and management. The internet is not reliable as it will go down every few days. I installed an IP switch which reboots the modem when it loses connectivity to the internet and it works flawlessly and has helped a lot. Every once in a while though I will lose connectivity and after working through the "tech support" I am forced to reset the modem to the default settings (which I am unable to do until the next time I am there) which pretty much defeats the purpose of remote monitoring. My question is what can I do about this. What would cause me to have to reset back to defaults? Is there a more reliable modem than the one I have? I don't have any other phones or devices on the line and it is in a high rise condo so I do not have access to any of the wiring. Any help or advice would be appreciated.
