I've had CenturyLink DSL for a year and it really wonky lately. Speed has always been unstable running between 2 and 15 Mbs, averaging about 7. I put up with it because trying to work with CL tech support is frustrating beyond belief.
But in the past couple months, my connection has started a problem where it just stops. If I open a browser window and type in a site, the browser wheel spins but nothing happens. It can take anywhere from five seconds to longer than two minutes (and then I quit). It happens intermittently but at least once a month. Effectively fixing it means unplugging all devices for a half hour. I called tech support but the language barrier made it very difficult and whether the slow speed resolved itself or the tech had something to do with it, I''m not sure.
Is it normal for DSL speed to fluctuate so much? Are there giant pauses in my service because I live in Southern Oregon and all our traffic is routed up to Eugene?
What causes this and can it be fixed?
